Such Stuff As Dreams Are Made On
“We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep.” Words of wisdom spoken by Shakespeare’s protagonist Prospero in The Tempest, arguably one of his last and best comedies.
Dixie State University Theatre department invites you to join us the last two weeks in March, for our interstellar re-imagining of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The production is appropriate for all audiences and plays in the Eccles Fine Arts Center Mainstage Theatre on the DSU campus, March 22-24, 26 and 28-31 at 7:30 p.m. You can purchase tickets online at www.dsutix.com or by calling the ticket office at 435-652-7800.
The Tempest is a magical play, renowned for casting a spell over readers and theatre audiences alike. Plenty of slapstick, lovable and despicable characters, murderous subplots and a central, dynastic love story make this comedy a must see! The Tempest is story of forgiveness and reconciliation between enemies and the ultimate achievement of peace, true love, freedom and happiness.
Brought to you by the director of DSU’s Man of La Mancha, Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) and starring the finest talent at DSU, this play is guaranteed to capture your hearts and your imagination with its striking spectacle, laughable, witty humor and meaningful morals for take-away. It is guaranteed fun for the entire family.
The Tempest follows Prospero, the former Duke of Milan, and his daughter, Miranda, twelve years after Prospero’s brother Antonio usurps his dukedom and exiles them to remote island. King Alonso’s ship, carrying the royal entourage, including Antonio and others, ventures too close to the island where Prospero now controls the elements. They become shipwrecked by a wild tempest driven by magical sprites and find themselves entangled in a well-made plot to set everything at peace again between them all. The young royals of the story are united to rule in piece and righteousness.
